Hamartiology, coming from the Greek words hamartia (meaning sin) and logos, (meaning word) is the study of sin, and of mankind in its sinful state. God created mankind good and placed them in a perfect environment. Adam and Eve willfully chose to rebel, bringing the righteous judgement of God upon them, their descendants, and their world. Ever since then, every man, woman, and child has been born with a will that is bent the wrong direction. Without exception, whether our personalities are nice or nasty, we are by nature rebels against God, desiring constantly to have our own way. So depraved is our nature that the only way out is by starting all over again—but that is the subject for next week.
